The history of the foundation of the Institute of Agricultural Microbiology and Agro-Industrial Production of NAAS is closely linked with the activities of the well-known scientist, academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (UASGN) Mikhail Vasilyevich Revo. The idea of creating an institute originated in M.V. Revue was at the beginning of his scientific career, but the scientist began to purposefully implement it in the second half of the 50s of the last century, when conditions for this were developed.
However, in 1960, instead of a dreamed institute, the Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Virology and Immunology (VSGMVI) was established as part of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Agriculture, UASGN (Order of the Minister of Agriculture of the USSR No. 1037 of 22.11.1960 and the decree of the Presidium of UASGN from November 29, 1960). But the activity of the Department started practically since the end of summer of next year, after giving it the status of a branch of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Agriculture (Order of the Minister of Agriculture of the USSR No. 508 dated August 29, 1961).
VGGMVI included three laboratories: agricultural microbiology, general virology and viral diseases of farm animals and general immunology. The department had a staff of 22 people. The institution was headed by the Ph.D. Ya.A. Beggarhood. The scientific work of the team was directed by Academician MV Revo, appointed to the post of deputy director of scientific work. Under the direct guidance of M.V. Investigation of enteroviruses and L-forms of mycobacteria has begun. In other laboratories at this time the features of diplococcus and streptococcal infections were investigated.
M.V. Revo realized that the creation of the Department is just the beginning. The scholar focused on expanding the department so that in the future it would have a basis for reorganizing it into a research institute. Thus, with the direct assistance of Mikhail Vasilyevich, the management of UASHN had intentions to expand the department “by creating a laboratory of soil microbiology, bacterial fertilizers, scar microbiology”. However, the scientist 02.03.62 died suddenly, without realizing his plan.
Case MV The employees of the Department continued to blunder. The department has gradually expanded. So, in particular, studies on soil microbiology were initiated.
In 1964, the department was headed by an outstanding scientist, D.V.N., Professor VI Rotov Activity V.I. Rutov was most deeply concerned with the problems of preventing and fighting tuberculosis of animals. Deputy Director for Scientific Work was appointed Ph.D. VO Christmas Later Professor MP worked on this post. Mosyuk and Ph.D. VO Agarkov.
At present, the Department includes 8 laboratories: microbiology of zoonotic diseases, immunology, virology, electron microscopy, viral diseases of cereals, viral diseases of potatoes, soil microbiology and microbiology of feed.
On the basis of the existing Department in 1969 the Ukrainian Research Institute of Agricultural Microbiology was established (Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 442 dated July 24, 1969 and Order of the Minister of Agriculture of the Ukrainian SSR No. 583 dated August 22, 1969). The Institute consisted of 10 scientific divisions: agricultural microbiology, general virology and viral diseases of farm animals, general immunology, soil microbiology, virology of plants, digestion of farm animals, microbiology of forages, immunology, virology of farm animals, zoonotic diseases of animals.
The institute was headed by a well-known virologist, Ph.D. Yu.M. Sheludko Deputy Director for Scientific Issues V.I. Rotovaya At present, known specialists of the virology-VP are involved in work at the Institute. Romanenko and F.Yu. Goatherd.
In particular, the institute has been developing since 1972, when its director became the candidate of bachelor’s degree. VS Sivers, and associate professor – Ph.D. O.O. Berestecky Construction of a new laboratory complex on the street begins. Malinovsky, the institute is saturated with new modern equipment, a powerful scientific team is formed. The main areas of research were microbiology of feeds, soil microbiology, fitovirusology, animal virology, microbiology of animals.
During this period, the study of microbiological aspects of increasing the fodder value of plant remains actively develops, and a probiotic preparation BPS-44 is created. The main executors of these issues were K. B. M.H. Correspondent, Ph.D. SD Bogdan, Cand. VP Dear, gm Gorobets, MP Topchy.
One should emphasize the importance of the O.O. Berestech research on particular areas of soil microbiology, in particular, the role of phytotoxic microorganisms in the emergence of such a phenomenon as ground-level. The phytotoxic forms of microorganisms – micromycetes (the candidate of SP Podkernichny), bacteria (Yu.M. Mochalov), actinomycetes (k.) Are constantly investigated in the soils of the Polissya, Forest Steppe and Steppe areas in field crop rotation and in the cultivation of crops. L. A. Kononyuk). The chemical nature of the phytotoxic metabolites of microorganisms was investigated by the Ph.D. VP Pathic, their influence on the initial stages of organogenesis of cultivated plants – Ph.D. AND. Hornbeam.
Since 1975, after the transition of O.O. Beresteckiy to the position of Director of the All-Union Institute of Agricultural Microbiology, VASGNIL, deputy director for scientific work and, at the same time, the head of the largest institute of the unit – Department of Soil Microbiology – works professor V.I. Canivets At this time, the above-mentioned research continues. At the same time, the issues of biological activity of soils, carbon transformation, peculiarities of the activation of the process of symbiotic nitrogen fixation, and the creation of nitrification inhibitors have received significant development. The research was conducted by research groups led by AI Kisel, V.P. Patika VI Torghevsky, SP Nadkernichny, T.A. Hrab, Yu.M. Mochalov.
At this time, wide development of the study of the pathogens of tuberculosis is obtained, diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic agents are tested, and so on. Professor V.I. actively worked on the solution of these issues. Rotov, Ph.D. P.Yu. Savchenko, VS Kozlov, VP Opanasenko and others.
From 1981 to 1997, the Institute was headed by D.V.N., Professor, Academician of the NAAN V.P. Romanenko Assistant Professor at the time worked as a Ph.D. F.Yu. Goatherd. The main areas of research were: soil microbiology, virology of plants and animals, microbiology of feed, animal tuberculosis.
For the development and implementation of the system of measures for the prevention and elimination of Teschen disease and the creation of a virus vaccine and sets of diagnosticums of authors V.P. Romanenko, O.G. Pruss, N.V. Babich was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology in 1989.
In the 80’s intensive research on specific issues of such a disease as animal tuberculosis was conducted. A collection of mycobacteria has been created in the laboratory of animal microbiology. On the basis of the analysis of epizootiological indices and the results of the conducted research, a “System of measures for prevention and rehabilitation of tuberculosis of cattle” was developed. The developed method of chemo prophylaxis with the use of tubaval has been introduced at numerous farms in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and other regions of the former Soviet Union.
Since 1980, as an independent structural unit, a research laboratory for biological nitrogen is underway, led by the candidate of biochemistry. N.M. Maltsevaya In the laboratory, the gas chromatographic methods of determining the activity of the nitrogen fixation process are adjusted, active breeding of bulb bacteria strains is actively performed. In parallel, on the initiative of VV Volkogon, in the unit begins the study of associative nitrogen fixation.
Since 1997, the Institute is headed by Dr.Sc., Professor, Academician of the NAAN V.P. Jack. On the initiative of VP The Southern Experimental Station was joined to the Institute by the Patties. Postgraduate studies start at the institute. New scientific divisions are created: the laboratory of biological transformation of nitrogen and phosphorus, microbiomethod, technical microbiology. An active preparation for the creation at the Institute of the Collection of Soil Soil Microorganisms is underway.
In 2000-2003, the director of the Institute worked as a well-known physician of the Phytomyologist, Ph.D. MM Zaritsky Significant efforts at this time were aimed at the creation of a collection of useful soil microorganisms, which acquired the status of the National. Forming a collection of strains of mycobacterium tuberculosis, phytopathogenic viruses, healing viruses of potato varieties. The staff of the Institute O.V. actively participated in the creation of collections. Nadkernichna, LM Tokmakova, T.M. Kovalevskaya, P.Yu. Savchenko, VS Kozlov, GM Diachenko, N.O. Kravchenko, F.Yu. Kozar, LP Kolomiyets, M.Ya. Pogorelko O.G. Pruss, VI Soroka, A.O. Bokun, IV Demchuk.
From 2003 to 2011, the Institute is headed by Dr.Sci.Sci., Professor, Corresponding Member of NAAN VV. Volkogon Assistant Professor O.V. Nadchernichna (since 2009 – Dr. B. S. Derevyanko). During this period, the considerable efforts of the team were aimed at the creation of microbial preparations of various functional orientations and technologies for their effective use.
